Tygervalley and Plumstead libraries close down due to a decline in revenue

The City of Cape Town will close the Tygervalley and Plumstead libraries due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic which caused a decline in revenue.

Reports suggest that two of the Mother City’s longest-standing facilities are set to close their doors when their current leases expire at the end of April and the end of June respectively.

According to IOL, in December 2021 the council indicated that the resources within these facilities be reallocated to other libraries, however, residents from the surrounding areas have initiated a petition to stop the closure as they feel alternative libraries in the area are unsafe and requires travelling.
